Forgive Me

These chains –
the remains of past pains –
keep me locked up in bitterness.
A sharp taste that lingers
from the cut that was administered
by careless behaviour
and misplaced words.

A wound not covered
with proper reconciliation
so it got infected,
and it affected
close friendships
in a way that
should never happen.

I didn’t choose this
but I didn’t fight it
by applying the word
and acting righteously,
I fastened the chains
through my own
inactiveness.

I rely on God’s forgiveness
but have none of my own
to give to the people
who need it from me,
I am a work in progress
that is plain to see
before I forgive you
please forgive me.
